9:00: Linsey Wellman – solo saxophone
“Unadorned except for his saxophone, Wellman uses repeated and carefully divided lines to vibrate split tones which are somehow both polyphonic and tonic. Using circular breathing he produces equivalent note clusters and glissandi that unroll as if his saxophone is a perpetual motion machine yet subtly vary in pitch, shading and emphasis.” – Ken Waxman

9:45: Shining Wizard
Alex Pelchat – guitar
Farley Miller – drums
Grace Brooks – vocals
James Goddard – saxophone, vocals
*Shining Wizard* was formed in 2011 as a free improv duo with Farley Miller on drums and Alex Pelchat on guitar. The group takes some cues from Han Bennink, Anthony Braxton and Keiji Haino as well as rock influences such as Deerhoof and Marnie Stern. Since its beginnings, the group has extensively toured the American east coast all the while releasing five albums on Cuchabata Records, Misery Loves Company and their own label, Bricodisque. For their fifth released, they are joined by Grace Brooks (Lungbutter, Femmaggots) on vocals and James Goddard (Skin Tone, Public Transit) on saxophone and vocals. The new record, “Avec Grace Brooks & James Goddard”, is taking the band in a new free punk direction while maintaining the group’s radical experimental sound from earlier incarnations.
