IMG_2255Jeff Morton is a composer, musician, performer, writer, and media artist. His music and art are playful, experimental explorations of sound, sound-making, communication, and compositional processes using found and musical objects and materials. In performance, composition, and installation, his work has been presented by ensembles and in galleries across Canada and internationally. Jeff completed a Masters Degree in Music Composition at the University of Victoria in 2008, where he studied with Christopher Butterfield.

Jeff has performed and presented live electroacoustic compositions and improvisations across Canada in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Saskatoon, and Regina, among other locations. Most recently, in March 2013, his composition The Old Cause was performed by the Saskatoon Symphony Core Players with live video by VJ Carrie Gates, as part of Surround Sound, presented by PAVED Arts and the SSO; and in the summer of 2013, the interactive sound and video installation PLAY, created in collaboration with theatre artist Kathleen Irwin, was exhibited at the Dunlop Art Gallery. In July, 2013, Morton’s composition Supertranspositions for digitally-controlled piano and live performer was premiered in Saskatoon, and also in July, Jeff presented a solo performance of improvised electroacoustic music at the Deep Listening concert series in Saskatoon, SK.

Currently, Jeff Morton resides in Ottawa, Canada, where he is a Program Officer in the Music Section at the Canada Council for the Arts, managing, among other things, the New Music program, the Commissioning of Canadian Compositions program, and the Jules Leger Prize for new chamber music. Before this position, Jeff was Managing Director of Holophon Audio Arts, a non-profit organization based in Regina, in which city he was also a recording engineer, media consultant, and installations technician for galleries, arts organizations, and artists.
