Ellwood Epps is an improvising trumpet player, teacher, and musical organizer who lives in Boston. In addition to leading Togetherness!, a sextet which plays music from South Africa, he can also be heard regularly with Eric Zinman, Gylnis Lomon, Matt Crane, Luther Gray, and Steven Lantner. Epps previously lived in Montreal for 16 years, where he co-founded the venue l’Envers, the weekly Mardi Spaghetti series, and the Festival of New Trumpet Music Canada.

After graduating from the University of Miami in 1995, drummer Luther Gray taught privately and performed in the Washington, D.C. area. Since moving to Boston he has resumed teaching private drum lessons and has played with Fred Anderson, Roy Campbell, Sabir Mateen, Joe McPhee, Joe Morris, Steve Swell, Ken Vandermark and many others.

Percussionist Matt Crane has played in the bands 99 Cent Dreams, BNSF, Carpet Floor, Custom Floor, and the West Coast Modern Day Punk Rock Orchestra, and has played with Jeb Bishop, Daniel Carter, Nels Cline, Jeff Platz, Reuben Radding, Damon Smith and Minutemen founder Mike Watt, among many others.

Lori Freedman is known internationally for her provocative and creative performances in both contemporary and improvised music streams. As an interpreter of written music for clarinet hundreds of works have been dedicated to and/or premiered by her. In 2017 she was elected to be a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada for “outstanding artistic achievement,” twenty years after having received the Freddie Stone Award (1998) for the “demonstration of outstanding leadership, integrity and excellence in the area of contemporary music and jazz.” Freedman is a member of the Ig Henneman Sextet, Queen Mab, Ratchet Orchestra, and has played with Jean Derome, Malcolm Goldstein, John Heward, Joëlle Léandre, George Lewis, René Lussier, and many others.
